Interior designer and property photographer Weronika Kangas
My design starts from interaction and the client's vision. Respect for the client and for the way they live and dream is at the heart of every plan I make.
Every project is a unique whole for me: I listen, observe and build the space together with the client, so that the result genuinely feels like home.
A passion for colour and interiors
I came to the world of colour out of pure passion. I want to encourage people to use colour in their homes, because the right colour choices add to wellbeing in everyday life. Choosing colours is often an interesting and sensitive journey with the client; even white comes in countless nuances, and many people want support with them. We all experience colour individually, which is why my plans always start from the client's preferences and the atmosphere they want.
A passion for property photography
For me, property photography is a way of telling a home's story at a single glance. I love the interplay of light, space and detail: the right angle and the right moment can bring the feeling of a space to life and help a buyer see the home's potential. As a photographer, I aim to capture the moment when a space feels inviting and genuine — that is when a photo sells.
Background and expertise
I am trained as a visual merchandiser and interior designer, and I have worked with people and homes for a long time. Even before my career as a designer, I worked in visual marketing for a house manufacturer, as an estate agent and as a property photographer, so I know the practices and needs of Finnish housing. My fine eye for distinguishing colours and my ability to see the visual whole help me create functional and beautiful solutions.
Inspiration and an international perspective
I draw inspiration from sunsets, photography, plants and the changing seasons of nature. Different cultures and history are close to my heart — the rich colours of Morocco and the elegance of France are part of my inner landscape. I have lived part of my life abroad, which has broadened my understanding of the bold use of colour as well as of Scandinavian minimalism and hygge thinking.
Principles of colour design
Colour choices always start from the client's own preferences and the atmosphere they want for the space. It is important to take into account the home's existing colours and textiles, and the age, style, size and lighting of the house. A beautiful surface or a detail in the home often makes an excellent starting point for a colour plan. Colour design is a demanding but rewarding part of interior design — well-chosen shades make a space cosy, functional and personal.
